We have dogs at our shelter with various stories but when our founder Du Yufeng received a phone call saying that two stray dogs were victims of a car accident, this was one of the saddest. One of the dogs was killed instantly by the car and the remaining dog, a Samoyed, had a minor injury to his hind leg.
When Du rushed to the site at Guangyuan Xiba Station, she witnessed the Samoyed trying to wake his friend up by licking and stomping on his dead body.
According to a street sweeper, the Samoyed had dragged his friend's body from the road to the park and had been by his friend’s side for 28 hours, refusing food or drink.
Initially Du was worried that the Samoyed may growl at her but after much persuasion Du and one of her volunteers managed to put a leash on the Samoyed and carried his dead friend into the boot of the car. The Samoyed did not give up, instead he jumped into the boot of the car still trying to wake his friend up.
Du took the Samoyed to the vet for a health check and a clean bath. His dead friend was given a Buddhist funeral.
Du told some of the people watching the scene, “People have a disregard for life and they abandon animals? They are flesh and blood, with intelligence and can be the most sincere and most faithful friend. They love humans more than they love themselves”
