We received a message on Wechat from a local worker in Chaotian District asking us to rescue a dog that was the victim of a car accident. After appealing for someone in the area to go and get the dog and take it to our vet, Doctor Li's surgery for us to pay the cost, our founder Du Yufeng ended up going to the scene herself with volunteers. They drove around for about an hour before they found the dog and encouraged her to come to them by giving her food.
Du quickly realised that the stomach injury was a cluster of aggressive mammary tumours so she asked the volunteer who drove them to the area if he would take them back to see Doctor Li.
When Doctor Li examined the dog, he told Du that she was too weak for surgery at the moment so Du will feed the dog good food and allow her to recuperate from living as a stray before she is assessed again.
The little dog, now named Xiao Huang, with the multiple aggressive mammary tumours has finally had surgery. Doctors from Chengdu, who were visiting our shelter to sterilize dogs, used their expertise on female dog anatomy to help dogs like Xiao Huang. Our local vet, Doctor Li, offered the use of his operating room.
When Xiao Huang's fur was shaved off it was evident the extent of the cancer. It was a long surgery and now Xiao Huang is recovering at our founder, Du Yufeng's home. Du has been checking on her throughout the night and keeping her comfortable by topping up her painkillers. Xiao Huang has hundreds of stitches but is now tumour free thanks to the expertise of the wonderful vets at Huai Ren hospital in Chengdu. Thank you to them and to the nurses and also to Doctor Li. Working together for the sake of the animals of China. Thanks also to you because your donations help towards treatments and follow up appointments.
