Student teachers from Chuan Bei school joined us on our education event in the villages of Longtan Township. These students regularly come to volunteer at the shelter and take the dogs for walks and they take their knowledge back home with them to teach their families and friends and are also then equipped to learn the kindergarten children they are teaching and will teach in the future.
We all joined together before our journey into the villages to make the videos below for you to share and show people the compassionate young people in our country who advocate for animals rights.
When the videos were made, we (Ms Du and some of our volunteers) along with the students drove in different cars (thanks to volunteers who gave their time to drive us around) and headed in to the villages to educate the locals and check on their animals.
The day was a success with leaflets given out and questions answered but our message was clear. Dog and cat meat eating is not acceptable in any season but now that Winter is approaching we were particular to the idea that some people in China feel that eating dog meat in Winter keeps them warm. We told the villagers that dogs guard their houses all year long and in the Winter it is no different. Cats keep mice and rats away from their grain. They are loyal to humans and only require food, water and a safe and warm place to sleep. Why would we betray them by killing them brutally and then eating them only to replace them with another?
Our slogan is:
"Cherish life and protect animals, resist eating the cat and dog meat!"
We believe the only way to stop the dog and cat meat trade and spread animal welfare is through education.
