Many more dogs have been rescued since our shelter was completed. We now have approximately 1600 dogs so an expansion was needed and to help with this massive expense we received a welcome grant from our partner SPCA International. The work would have been a lot quicker had we been able to afford the construction vehicles and staff but with the help of our own workers and some local builders and friends the work began. Then came weeks of torrential rain and flooding which was a huge setback but eventually the expansion was complete. To say thank you to SPCA International and their donors for their help and support throughout the years and with this project, we have dedicated a kennel block to them. The plaque below was designed by Du to be placed on the entrance gate to the dedicated kennel block. Scroll down further for video clips that represent months of work. Finished just in time for Christmas 2021, the last video clip shows Du and one of our volunteers with some of the shelter dogs at the entrance to the dedicated kennel block. Please follow SPCA International on their social media pages to see the great work they do.

Since we posted the blog posts below, numbers of dogs at our shelter have doubled and are now around 1300. We need organisations in America and Canada to partner with for the most dogs to have the best chance of finding forever homes so if you are an organisation or you know of one, please contact us. We don't have a dedicated adoption page to show individual dogs because there are just too many of them and too few of us to take photos but if you see a dog you connect with please get in touch with us and we will talk to you. Or if there is a type, breed, size or sex of dog you are interested in adopting, again please get in touch and we endeavour to find a match for you. Most of our dogs are rescued from the streets or from slaughterhouses and most are Chinese Rural (Native) Dogs. We do have breeds too. Just let us know what you are looking for. When it was time for the dogs to be moved from the high rise shelter to the new shelter, all the volunteers and some of our friends helped and it was a concerted effort to steer the dogs down the steps into the designated trucks. Once at the other end they were unloaded from the trucks and enjoyed looking around their new surroundings.
The local TV News channel followed the journey of some of the dogs as they traveled to the new shelter. The shelter started to take place quite quickly once the foundations were installed. The main 3 story building has lots of kennels in it along with the 3 buildings with the pink roof tiles. As each part of the shelter was finished, dogs were moved in.
Once the electric cables, electricity supply, water pipes and water supply had been laid, the construction work began and the new shelter began to take place. As the building work progressed a local TV News channel wanted to come to the site and interview Du:- The Guangyuan government officials who we had liaised with over the site plans, water and
electric installation, visited the site of the new shelter to see how things were progressing. Du and some of our volunteers visited the site of the new shelter to measure the sizes of the kennels and other parts of the shelter. They Du had begun to lease this site while she still had the animals in the old shelter. She had always dreamed of having a shelter in the countryside where the animals could taste the fresh air and feel the grass beneath their feet. The water pipes and electric cables were installed at the site of the new shelter in December 2013. The Guangyuan government helped with this monetary wise and we are eternally grateful that they helped us in this way. They have been a wonderful partner, supporting us with our shelter since it was founded in 2008. The site manager had 2 dogs who stayed with him, throughout, on the site and guarded the machinery and tools
The old shelter was situated in an apartment block owned by our founder Du Yufeng. Dogs (and cats) were housed on different levels of the high-rise building. This building was in a residential area and complaints by neighbours about the noise were regular. In 2013, we received over $11,000 in donations. Our founder, Du Yufeng, wanted to thank you for your kindness. The donations were used to help build a new, bigger shelter for the animals of Bo Ai Animal Protection Centre. This video shows Du going to the bank to confirm receipt of the donations and then thanking you from inside the highrise apartment block. |
