Mia is loving her new life and her big sister Maddie. While her mommy, Becky, and Maddie went to Phoenix overnight, Mia stayed with Becky's sister. Mia missed Maddie and when they were back together, the day after, Mia wasted no time in snuggling up to Maddie to show her how much she had missed her.
Mia has seen the orthotic specialist about a possible brace on her disabled front leg but there is more talk and decisions to be made about whether it will help her.
Mia also had her first shopping trip and then went out to a restaurant for lunch. Becky tells us she did very well. It's lovely to see her experiencing new sights and sounds. Her life in Arizona is certainly a happy and fulfilling one.
Mia is settling in to her new home and country really well. She enjoys lovely food; kibble, scrambled egg (she loves eggs from her time at the shelter), green beans and pumpkin twice a day. She also gets a fish oil tablet once a day and a herbal supplement to help with the regrowth of her golden coat. She also has another herbal support for her teeth. She sits like a good girl to wait for her meals. She is also learning leash training.
Mia's new mommy, Becky, is very busy and heavily involved in the charity who rescued Mia, Rescue A Golden Of Arizona. Sometimes work has to come first so here are Maddie & Mia, with Becky in her office, snoozing.
Mia's big sister, Maddie, has been teaching her to chase lizards in their yard. The lizards come to no harm since they are small and very fast but it keeps the girls entertained. It's great to see Mia, as always, not letting her disability get in the way of her enjoying life.
Mao Niu has a new name! She is now called Mia.
Mia is having acupuncture with her new holistic vet. She is having acupuncture once a month for her overall well-being as well as laser treatment. Becky is working with an orthotics specialist in southern Arizona to see if a brace can be designed to help Mia use her left front leg.
Mia will also be sterilized soon.
Mao Niu is settling in well in her new home with Becky and has a new sister, Golden Retriever Maddie.
Mao Niu made it safely to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in America and has met her new mommy, Becky!
Mao Niu has been in her new home for a couple of nights now and is already learning the correct place in her new yard where she should do her business. She has a new fur sister, Maddie, who will teach her all about being a home girl since Mao Niu has only ever known the shelter as her home. Now the time starts for her to experience what we wish every one of our dogs could experience; a home and a family of their very own.
Mao Niu was taken to the airport by our colleagues at the transport company who have looked after her at the pet hotel and taken her for veterinary appointments. She has been checked in and all the necessary paperwork completed. She is comfortable in her crate and now we are waiting for take off. Everyone is excited to see what she will make of her new country - America!
Mao Mao (and Mao Niu) have both had to stay extra days in Beijing and their original flights were postponed. Both have been treated for Superficial Pyoderma so one of our pet transport colleagues has been administering medicine twice a day. Unfortunately both Mao Mao and Mao Niu were shaved so that the medicine could be administered more effectively and so that, because of the weather getting hotter in Beijing, they could fly to Arizona as soon as possible. Their unfortunate circumstances has not dampened both dogs' enthusiasm and they are still keen to play, give everyone kisses and make everyone laugh at their antics. Everyone loves Mao Mao and Mao Niu.
This morning (12th May), it was time for Mao Niu and Mao Mao to leave Du's house and Bo Ai Centre. Du took them to the bus station in her car and a volunteer accompanied them to Chengdu airport where they will stay in the pet hotel there. Tomorrow morning (13th May) they will fly to Beijing where they will stay in the pet hotel there until it is time for their connecting flights to America.
