Now that Noah has a new home to look forward to, preparations are under way to help him get there. He has been measured and weighed ready for his flight crate.
Noah has had his microchip inserted and his rabies vaccination. He must wait 30 days after the rabies vaccine before he can have his blood taken for the titre test. The blood serum will be sent to a laboratory to test the level of antibodies in Noah's blood. This is required by EU law.
Chang Jie Mao is a lucky boy. He has been adopted! A lovely lady called Miriam from the Netherlands is his new mommy. She is excited to meet Chang Jie Mao and give him his forever home. She has also given him a new name - Noah. We think he suits his new name.
Chang Jie Mao (meaning long lashes) got his name because his lashes are longer than the other dogs.
When he was first rescued he was timid and scared of humans. He was rescued from a slaughterhouse that housed dogs until restaurant owners came to choose and buy them and have them slaughtered. He would have seen many dogs brutally killed in front of him so it was understandable that he stayed at the back of the cage in the slaughterhouse. That is how Ms Du found him- shivering with fear at the back of the cage. He stayed like that when he was taken to our shelter.
He would stay at the back of his kennel when other dogs moved forward to be stroked and stayed like that for around 6 months. The staff used stick therapy on him. They started off outside his kennel just talking to him, progressing to touching him through the bars with a long stick, with a rag tied to the end of it, every day and as he settled in to his routine the staff went in to the kennel with the stick and gradually the stick was shortened until he eventually had a breakthrough and let the staff sit next to him. Once that happened he started to look forward to the strokes and cuddles and now craves them.
Chang Jie Mao was packed in to a chicken cage with 20 other dogs ready for a restaurant owner to buy them and have them brutally slaughtered.
