Kang Kang is a beautiful Golden Retriever. She was dumped as a puppy at a vet clinic when her owner found out that she had Canine Distemper. One of our volunteers was at the vet clinic when this happened and tried to persuade the puppy's owner to keep her but to no avail. Our volunteer called our founder Du Yufeng when the owner threatened that she would dump the puppy on the streets because she couldn't afford to keep her. Du told our volunteer to take the puppy off the owner and bring her to the shelter. Du named her Kang Kang 康康 (meaning healthy). Du quickly realised that Kang Kang's hind legs were paralysed, probably as a result of the Distemper. With regular treatment, Kang Kang was soon rid of the cruel disease. Life for Kang Kang could quite easily have taken a sinister turn if our volunteer hadn't been at the vet clinic that day. Apart from having to fend for herself against other dogs on the streets, Kang Kang would have had a disadvantage with being disabled and could have been the target of traffickers looking to steal vulnerable dogs for the meat trade. Now, a wonderful organisation, Goldens Without Borders Rescue, in America are giving Kang Kang a second chance and a forever home. Photo: Kang Kang after being rescued.

Thank you to all of Kang Kang's caretakers in China. You have shown her such care and compassion when so many would have turned their backs on her. She is a beautiful young Golden with a bright and healthy future awaiting her in the United States. Kang Kang, we have fallen in love with you already and we can't wait for your arrival!
