This morning (12th May), it was time for Mao Mao and Mao Niu to leave Du's house and Bo Ai Centre. Du took them to the bus station in her car and a volunteer accompanied them to Chengdu airport where they will stay in the pet hotel there. Tomorrow morning (13th May) they will fly to Beijing where they will stay in the pet hotel there until it is time for their connecting flights to America.

While Mao Mao has been waiting for the time to come to go to America, he has been enjoying leisurely walks with the students who go to Du's house to take out the dogs, who are sick , for walks. Two of our Golden Retrievers were adopted by one of our partners, Goldens Without Borders, in America and they eventually flew out to Las Vegas a couple of months ago and are doing great so we were delighted to be contacted by another Golden Retriever Charity in America called Rescue a Golden Arizona. They offered to take 2 of our remaining Goldens and Mao Mao is one of them! He will live out his retirement years in a loving home with
no stress and lots of cuddles. He has a family waiting for him. Du and our workers measured and weighed Mao Mao ready for the final price of the flight. Du decided to call this Golden Retriever, Mao Mao. He lived in her house for a few weeks while he put a bit of weight on and settled down. He had a lump/tumor on his leg which has now been removed. The vet estimated him to be around 7 or 8 years old but he does not let age get in the way of him enjoying his new lease of life!
This middle aged gentleman was abandoned by his owner who had him delivered to our founder, Du Yufeng's house. When he spoke to her he told her that the dog had been used as a stud dog since he was 1 years old, breeding non stop. He also mentioned that if she didn't take him, he would have him sent to the butcher! The stress of being kept in a kennel until he was needed to mate with a female must have been very stressful for him and as a result he has had a persistent skin disease on his legs. When the volunteers gave him a bath it took 3 shampoos until the water ran clear because he was so filthy! Du gave him the name Mao Mao. |
