Kang Kang and Jin Niu were flown from Chengdu to Beijing Airport on Saturday 11 March. Du packed them some food to eat and bedding to lie on. The flight was delayed for 20 minutes but was only 2 hours long. Both the girls will understand the procedure and sensation, on their next flight, a little better.

Jin Niu's last breakfast at Bo Ai was a bittersweet one because we will be really sad to see her go but very happy that she has finally found her forever home. After breakfast, Jin Niu and Kang Kang traveled by car to Chengdu airport where they will stay the night. In the morning they will fly to Beijing. They will stay in the pet hotel there until their big day on Tuesday 14th March! Exciting times ahead! Jin Niu has been brought from the shelter to Du's house where one of our volunteers is giving her a pamper session. Over the last year, Jin Niu has had regular medicated and herbal showers to help her skin heal and her fur grow back and those showers have worked. Her fur has grown back well. Jin Niu loves to have a pamper. She stands calmly and enjoys the massage and cleaning. The dust and smell of the shower will be washed away and she will be ready for the first part of her journey. She will share the same flight as Kang Kang and will fly from Beijing to Chicago on Tuesday 14th March 2017. That same evening, both dogs will make their final plane journey to Las Vegas where they will be met by Sheila. Jin Niu has had her rabies vaccine and is now ready to enter the United States of America!
The time is getting nearer for this little girl to start a new life. We wish we could tell her what is happening and that everything is going to be ok. Jin Niu has been weighed and measured, to determine the size of crate she will travel in on her long journey.
The crate she will travel in is IATA (International Air Transport Association) compliant so she will be safe and cozy on the flights. Jin Niu was only a year old when she was surrendered to us by her owner. She is a sweet, gentle girl but she can be a little timid with all the barking in the shelter. She hasn't done too well in kennels. American charity, Goldens Without Borders are taking Jin Niu at the same time as one of our other Golden Retrievers, Kang Kang. See Kang Kang's blog here. Jin Niu craves affection and so we are really happy that she will be taken out of the kennel situation so that she can begin her short life again, with a family who really love her and who will continue to do so for the rest of her life. We look forward to seeing updates of Jin Niu's new life in Las Vegas and of her confidence being built up. We are sure that once she is settled in to her new life and country, that she will come out of her shell and her true personality will shine. Jin Niu is approximately 2 years old now but she was a year old when she came to us (see photo below).
She was surrendered by someone who could no longer look after her. She is a Golden Retriever mix and her beautiful golden plume of a tail has been cruelly cut off, leaving her with only a stump. We don't know if her previous owner did this, although he denied he did. Jin Niu developed a skin condition where she lost some of her fur, probably caused by the stress of being in kennels and her owner leaving her. However bad an owner treats a dog, we are always upset to see the dog still holds a loyalty to someone who could have hurt them... Jin Niu will start a new chapter of her life soon. Goldens Without Borders in Las Vegas have agreed to adopt her and they already have a family who are interested in having her as their new companion. She will be very happy in a home situation because she doesn't do well in kennels. She is very gentle but can be timid so once she is away from the kennels we think her true personality will shine and she will make someone very happy. Jin Niu will be making the journey with another of our Golden Retrievers, Kang Kang, so we are very happy that Sheila, the lady behind Goldens Without Borders, has agreed to take these 2 beautiful girls. |
