Chang Jie Mao didn't eat his supper and was quite clingy with Du and despite her preparing his favourite meal he had no appetite. He just wanted to be with her, like he knew this would be the last night he would spend with her, excited for a forever home at last.

Yesterday Du took Noah to the beauty salon. The salon owners, Xiao Deng and his wife often help out at the shelter when dog baths and hair cuts are needed. They offered to give Noah a pampering session. He was bathed, blow dried, had his fur trimmed, ears cleaned and nails clipped. Noah really enjoyed all the attention on his day out. The passenger who had agreed to take Noah to Paris decided to take more luggage so Noah could not be added to the passenger's ticket. Another passenger was found and then another and each time something happened which meant that Noah could not make the journey to Miriam. Finding passengers to take dogs as excess luggage on their tickets can be hard and sometimes a passenger is never found. Through all this time, Noah has been unaware but Miriam has been upset. Du and our volunteer Yao Yao have been spending time with Noah, waiting for good news... Noah is going home very soon! A flight volunteer has come forward and will accompany him on his flight. The volunteer is flying to Paris which is an approximate 3 hours drive from Miriam's first choice, Brussels.
Flight volunteers are hard to find so this really is Noah's happy ending. He already has lots of toys waiting for him, lucky boy! He will arrive in Paris on 6th April. We have less than 2 weeks to wait until Noah meets his new mommy and his new dog and cat siblings. Until then, Noah sends kisses to them all. UPDATE: Unfortunately the passenger who was taking Noah has postponed his travel until May so we and the transport team are trying to find another passenger who may be able to take Noah sooner. Christmas 2017 is the last Christmas that Noah will have in China. Our founder, Du Yufeng, and everyone at the shelter will miss him very much because he is such a good boy but we all know that he is going to a good home with lots of love.
While Noah waits for the time when he can fly to Miriam, he is his usual happy self, playing with the other dogs at Ms Du's apartment block especially Scout & Gronk, 2 Golden Retrievers who are waiting to get to their forever homes in America. Noah's happy smile brightens everyone's day! Noah has had his titre test result and he has passed! So now we can start to try and find a flight volunteer to fly with him from Beijing to Amsterdam.
After the blood draw, a dog must wait 90 days before entry into the EU. He is one step closer to getting to his new home. We are all so excited. Now that Noah has a new home to look forward to, preparations are under way to help him get there. He has been measured and weighed ready for his flight crate. Noah has had his microchip inserted and his rabies vaccination. He must wait 30 days after the rabies vaccine before he can have his blood taken for the titre test. The blood serum will be sent to a laboratory to test the level of antibodies in Noah's blood. This is required by EU law.
Chang Jie Mao is a lucky boy. He has been adopted! A lovely lady called Miriam from the Netherlands is his new mommy. She is excited to meet Chang Jie Mao and give him his forever home. She has also given him a new name - Noah. We think he suits his new name.
Chang Jie Mao (meaning long lashes) got his name because his lashes are longer than the other dogs. When he was first rescued he was timid and scared of humans. He was rescued from a slaughterhouse that housed dogs until restaurant owners came to choose and buy them and have them slaughtered. He would have seen many dogs brutally killed in front of him so it was understandable that he stayed at the back of the cage in the slaughterhouse. That is how Ms Du found him- shivering with fear at the back of the cage. He stayed like that when he was taken to our shelter. He would stay at the back of his kennel when other dogs moved forward to be stroked and stayed like that for around 6 months. The staff used stick therapy on him. They started off outside his kennel just talking to him, progressing to touching him through the bars with a long stick, with a rag tied to the end of it, every day and as he settled in to his routine the staff went in to the kennel with the stick and gradually the stick was shortened until he eventually had a breakthrough and let the staff sit next to him. Once that happened he started to look forward to the strokes and cuddles and now craves them. Below left-
