Ami's flight from Chengdu to Beijing was delayed for a couple of hours because of thunderstorms in Beijing but once she arrived there she was met by our colleague Wang Yan who took her for a walk and gave her something to eat and drink. Ami will stay in Beijing until her transit flight to Amsterdam in a few days.

Du and Ami arrived in Chengdu after lunch so because they were meeting the pet transport company representative, who was collecting Ami, an hour or so later, Du took Ami for a walk in the area and bought her a special treat of braised pork, braised duck and roast chicken. Then it was time for Du to say goodbye to Ami, who she had raised from a tiny puppy. Now she would be one step nearer to living in a land where they have laws to protect her for the rest of her life. And a forever home. Du prepared Ami's crate to fly to Chengdu and taped her vaccination book to the top. This crate will take her to Beijing but she will be in an IATA approved crate to travel to Amsterdam and then on to Chicago. Du prepared Ami for the journey to Chengdu by putting her harness on so that she could ride in the car. Ami was excited to be going somewhere and was very curious, looking out of the window.
Ami had her last breakfast in China and before she left Guangyuan to go to Chengdu Airport, Du gave her and some of the other dogs a 'going away cake' made especially for dogs to say goodbye. We will all miss Ami. We know that Ami likes to be pampered so going to the pet beauty salon was a lovely treat for her. The girls who work at the beauty salon fell in love with Ami as soon as she walked through the door. Our volunteer Yao Yao took Ami to the pet hospital for her rabies vaccination, required to enter America.
Ami was a brave girl and did not bother when Doctor Li gave her the vaccination. She also had her microchip implant. Not long to wait now until she is able to meet her new mommy! When the workers have repairs to do at the shelter you can usually guarantee that Ami is with them. She is interested in what they are doing and hangs around, knowing they will stroke her but she is loved by all the workers for her cheeky nature and affectionate ways. A lonely job, out in the field digging drains or replacing pipes is often made more pleasurable with little Ami by their sides. Everyone is happy Ami has been adopted but they'll miss her. Now that Ami has officially been adopted, she was measured and weighed for her flight crate. The crate must be big enough for her to stay comfortable in the flight from Beijing to Amsterdam and then on to Chicago. Our former volunteer Yang Dong helped out with the measuring while Du took Ami to Doctor Li's pet hospital to be weighed.
Ami loves to investigate whatever is happening at the shelter. She is inquisitive and funny which makes her very cute. So when it was bath time for one of her doggy friends, a Poodle called Le Le, she was right in the middle of what was happening. The students, who regularly come to our shelter to volunteer, found Ami asking to be bathed after Le Le. She moved in to take Le Le's place when his bath was finished! She thoroughly enjoyed her pampering! When Ami's bath was finished, and she had been dried, she and Le le had some play time ♥ 2018 is Ami's year. While our shelter is the only home that Ami can remember, a shelter is not really a home and as much as we try to give her all the love and cuddles we can, the dogs have to compete for attention. Soon. Ami will have all the cuddles she wants from her new mommy and daddy in America. We are so happy for them all.
